After seminary, Alejandro went home to Argentina where he began to teach a class on expository preaching for a group of six pastors. Every Monday, he and those six men would sit down together and study God’s word for seven hours straight—from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
“I was expecting them to quit,” Alejandro said looking back at how demanding it was, “But they endured the whole year. It was awesome.”
Those six men showed an extraordinary desire to develop their preaching—and as time would tell, they weren’t the only ones.
There were dozens more—hundreds more.
After Alejandro taught that first class nearly nine years ago, God began to multiply his ministry beyond what he could’ve imagined.
The fact that there’s this much of a hunger for strong preaching in South America tells us that the Spirit of God is at work.
Today, Alejandro runs a Bible Institute that trains men from over 120 churches across the region, including 72 churches in Argentina, 18 in Chile, 15 in Paraguay, 7 in Venezuela, 5 in Uruguay, and even 5 in Cuba. The kind of hunger that he witnessed in his first students wasn’t at all unique; it has since been found in the hearts of pastors all over the continent. All combined, over 360 students are now enrolled in Alejandro’s Bible Institute via residential and online programs—and the numbers are still growing.
The fact that there’s this much of a hunger for strong preaching in South America tells us that the Spirit of God is at work. This region has long been trampled underfoot by the lies of Roman Catholicism and the prosperity gospel, but God is awakening this region with an appetite for the truth.
In trying to keep up with what God is doing, Alejandro and his team have now invited TMAI to come alongside them and formally support their training in the region. And as God graciously continues to expand TMAI’s horizons, this school is likely to become the first of many new TMAI member schools in South America.
But there are more—dozens more. Other dependable men like Alejandro have also invited TMAI to support their efforts to train the pastors in various countries around the world, and we are prayerfully considering each request.
These are exciting times! As God is opening doors for us to serve several of these schools, TMAI has just opened a new support fund specifically designed to help these developing training centers establish their early foundational needs.
Please pray with us for God to bless these exciting opportunities, and if you would like to come alongside us financially to support this gracious work, you are welcome to respond online at www.tmai.org/donate.
