On a recent short-term mission trip, Elliot Kang visited the church of Patrick Tsiga, a third year student at the Central Africa Preaching Academy (CAPA), The Master’s Academy International’s member school in Malawi, Africa. On the trip, Elliot witnessed first-hand the firm grip false teaching—particularly the prosperity gospel—has on the people of Malawi. This destructive heresy has become a plague to the church, deceiving people with the notion that Christ came to bring them health and wealth.
As he grieved the impact of that false teaching, Elliot was privileged to witness Patrick preaching to his local congregation. He described Patrick’s sermon as a “faithful exposition of the Word” and a “passionate defense of biblical truth,” one that boldly rebuked the false prophets and teachings that are so prevalent in Malawi.
Elliot was also encouraged by Patrick’s associate pastor, Aubrey Gulumba. Aubrey is also attending classes at CAPA, and on the day Elliot visited, Aubrey gave a clear explanation of communion as a memorial of Christ’s sacrifice on behalf of His church. Though both Patrick and Aubrey are still completing their training, they both serve as lights for Christ in a continent in desperate need. They provide the people in their church and region with the Bible’s answer to false teaching and dangerous heresies. They lead them into true communion with the Lord and guide them to worship in spirit and in truth. They deliver the only message that can provide genuine hope: the gospel!
