Purpose

The purpose of the training center is to equip South American pastors and lay leaders for ministry by developing their commitments to the sufficiency and authority of Scripture, with an emphasis on expository preaching.

History

Instituto de Expositores en Argentina (IDEAR), or Expositor's Institute in Argentina, was established in 2013, training a core group of six pastors from different churches in Buenos Aires. After teaching intensive workshops on expository preaching in Argentina and its bordering countries, IDEAR created a hybrid program with residential classes (intensive seminars) and online courses. IDEAR trains church leaders from Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Cuba. There are almost 200 online students in three programs: Bible & Theology, Exegesis & Exposition, and Ministry & Counseling. In addition, IDEAR serves churches through pastoral conferences, webinars, intensive workshops, pastoral family retreats, and personal advice to elder boards.

Vision

Our training center will be, in twenty years, a leading theological seminary for Bible-believing Christians, unique in its emphasis on expository preaching and its intimate relationship with the local church. It will train faithful men to passionately preach God’s word so that existing churches may be vivified and new churches planted in Argentina and its bordering countries.

Different studies and surveys show a disappointing situation for Argentina and its surroundings. Argentina is nominally Catholic, but its culture is dominated by secularism. Theological precision is often belittled, and liberalism has reached into the traditional seminaries of major denominations. And while the population of evangelicals has risen over the last twenty years, the increase is largely credited to the charismatic tradition. The influx of charismatic theology has brought many changes, including a growing tendency to replace traditional models of church leadership with unhealthy alternatives. In addition, most church leaders in Argentina are untrained and most of the evangelical pastors are self-educated. Real conversions and spiritual nurture are rare and therefore, the rate of desertion is high.
