Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

The Christian’s whole life is Christ. The thought of a life without Him should not only sound foreign to the man or woman of God, but altogether miserable. The desire to be with God should be an overwhelming one; so much so, in fact, that death is seen as gain for those who love God (Phil. 1:21). This is what the apostle Paul points to as he encourages the Colossian believers to consider, on a deeper level, what it means to long for Christ. This world is fleeting, but an eternity with King Jesus is imminent. Is your mind set on Christ? In considering the fact that one has “been raised,” the obvious conclusion is that this is the result of being born again, of receiving a new life. This person who has been given this enormous gift, must then, out of a deep love for Christ, intentionally set his mind to where He is. The Lord is presently at the right hand of the Father, so what other place could possibly be better or more appealing for the Christian? This seeking, this desiring, this longing, will be all-consuming, as the Christian understands that Christ is his or her whole life (Gal. 2:20). The language of setting one’s mind on something is reminiscent of the fact that we are to “[take] every thought captive” (2 Cor. 10:5). The world in which we live offers much by way of distraction, but the love of Christ, the reality of one’s identity in Him, and the desire to be with Him prompts the Christian to gladly seek where He is and to think of Him. This world is fleeting, but an eternity with King Jesus is imminent. Is your mind set on Christ? Seek Him above!
