Walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
— Ephesians 5:2 —

The world and Christians define love differently. The world’s definition of love is associating with feelings, often masquerading egoism and lust. Christians look to God to define love, pictured in the sacrifice of Christ for unworthy sinners. Why is it important to remember the difference? Because the world is actively selling God’s church their faulty view of love.
How should we respond to the world’s offer? Love is nothing less than imitating the self-giving sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ! We don’t need a surrogate! We have different standards, a different orientation. We don’t imitate the heroes of Hollywood, but the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave His life so sinners could be reconciled to God. Our love must be oriented on Christ. Think about how easy it is to love theoretically and how difficult it is to show love in action. Without the power of Christ, we could not love as God calls us to. Therefore, we are reminded of Christ and understand that if He loved us—undeserving sinners—and sacrificed Himself for us, then we have no reason to pick and choose whom we should love, to prefer our own good instead of pleasing God by serving our neighbor, and to disappoint God in our daily lives by thinking of ourselves more than of others. The sacrifice of Christ reminds us of the standard of love which God expects from us. Dedicate some time to prayerfully meditate on the awesome work of the Savior at Calvary and strive to be like Him in the course of each day, since love is nothing less than imitating the self-giving sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ!
