The news about Him spread throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics; and He healed them.
— Matthew 4:24—

Nothing was impossible for our Savior. No disease or pain was too severe for Him to heal. Some of the diseases Jesus healed were a direct result of sin. Some people were demon-possessed, others were handicapped—Jesus had compassion on them all. That’s why the news about Jesus spread quickly, even into regions where Jesus wasn’t doing miracles. These signs not only proved that He was the Messiah, promised by the prophets, but also corroborated the things He taught. We don’t have to be afraid of anything, because the Lord Jesus is with us After Jesus had finished His redemptive work on earth and the foundation of the church had been laid by the apostles, such miracles were no longer necessary. But the greatest miracle, worked by our Lord Jesus even today, is that He heals our spiritual diseases, infirmities, and pain—namely sin. So, be compassionate with the lost, like our Lord Jesus. Tell them about the One who alone can open up and heal their hardened hearts. At the end of Matthew’s gospel, He assures us: “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth” (Matt. 28:18); and He has promised you, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20). We don’t have to be afraid of anything, because the Lord Jesus is with us, the Lord “who pardons all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit” (Psa. 103:3–4). I’m always encouraged and edified when I contemplate the greatness and the power of our Lord Jesus Christ. This verse in Matthew gives a foretaste of how glorious the future with Jesus will be, where there will be no more sorrow or pain.
