O taste and see that the Lord is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
— Psalm 34:8 —

Croatia, like every country, has many great foods to taste and sights to see. God is good to give us sensory perception so that we can enjoy meals and vistas. But He gives us these blessings to spur us to a greater reality—to understand and know Him. The psalmist invites the worshiper to experience God and to recognize His goodness. He is good to the upright and the evil as he sends rain and sun-shine upon all. God is good for many reasons, but His greatest good is Jesus Christ who died for us. He is generous with His kindness to allow those who love Him and those who hate Him to enjoy relationships and seasons of life. But His goodness is seen most of all in His sending His Son to die on the cross. All the good things we taste and see—from pumpkin seed oil on garden-grown tomatoes and cucumbers to warm cheese strudel to the blue and green hues of the Plitvicka lakes with their connecting waterfalls to the pristine Adriatic Sea—as well as all we hear, smell, and touchpoint us to the greater goodness of God, the giver of all good things. We dare not despise His goodness and kindness. Instead, we must run to God and find in Him a true refuge. He is that refuge, and all who look to Christ in faith have their lives hidden in Him. God is good for many reasons, but His greatest good is Jesus Christ who died for us. What do you enjoy tasting and seeing? Give praise to God for them.
