Rebellion is man’s natural habitat. But when, like Balaam, a sinner sees the angel of death standing in his way, when he sees God’s sword against his throat and God’s wrath above his head, he will not put out his hand to God and say, “Let’s make a deal.” He will bow in fear and trembling and call upon the name of the Lord. Submission to Christ as Lord is not merely essential to conversion, it is the essence of it. Pray that the Lord will place in your heart, home, and congregation a greater burden for the lost and perishing. But how can men call upon and submit to the Lord if they know nothing of Him? Who will go? And just as importantly, who will send? The church must always be holding up these questions to her people and must always remember that sending means sacrifice. Nothing saddens me more than seeing churches send out those who will least likely be missed and those who are easiest to replace. Antioch sent out Paul and Barnabas. They sacrificed their right arm because of the needs of a perishing world. Few things prove the lordship of Christ over a local church more than the willingness to sacrifice to Him our most precious servants. These individuals have the beautiful feet that Paul speaks of. Those ministers and servants that are most beautiful to us will be most beautiful to the lost and waiting world. And this sacrifice is most beautiful to our God who sent His most precious Servant to us. Pray that the Lord will place in your heart, home, and congregation a greater burden for the lost and perishing. And pray that you would take a greater part in either sending or going.
