Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
— 1 John 2:15 —

It is generally known that during the peak of communism, the Czech church grew stronger and was more unified. But after communism lost its strength, the church grew weaker and weaker. New distractions and possibilities from this world caught the attention of many Christians. This world screams loudly every day for our attention over the things of God. It wants us to love it more than God. Though Christians have been given new life, which provides the ability to resist sin, the tension of the Christian life demonstrates the presence of sin has not yet been eliminated. It is the power of sin which was broken. This means Christians have the ability to resist temptation, so we need to be warned against falling into sin. Today’s passage speaks to this warning. After giving an assurance to his audience, John now warns the saints not to take their salvation for granted by loving the world. For if we love the world, the love of the Father is not in us. It is important to realize that when John speaks about the world, he is referring to the world system and the things of this present life. This world screams loudly every day for our attention over the things of God. It wants us to love it more than God. As we know, this is one of the main sins of our day. People love creation and the creature more than the Creator (Rom. 1:25). Unbelievers are obsessed by and devoted to this present world, which is perishing. We must not fix our hope and love in the same place. As Christians, let us make sure our hearts are never set on what this world loves, but on what God loves. This will demonstrate that the Father’s love is in us.
