May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you.
— Jude 2 —
Raymond C. Diango: The Expositor’s Academy | Philippines
God is merciful, peaceful, and loving. His love moved Him to show mercy to sinful men and women, making peace with them through the blood of His own Son. He showed undeserved kindness by granting forgiveness to His people, sparing them from the punishment their sins deserved. Every believer experiences the mercy, peace, and love of God when we trust in Christ. The salvation of sinners puts the mercy, peace, and love of God on clear display! Jude’s greeting in this verse is meant for those who already believe the gospel and know, to some extent, these qualities. Jude’s desire is that God’s mercy, peace, and love would continue to be known by them. Every believer experiences the mercy, peace, and love of God when we trust in Christ. And every believer continues to know these qualities of God as we grow in Him. As God transforms us by His word and Spirit, we can, in turn, multiply His mercy, peace, and love to others. We do this when, for example, we show mercy to the weak and needy. We do this when we proclaim to sinners the way to achieve peace with God in Christ Jesus. And we do this when we explain to sinners the love that God has shown the world by sending His only Son to die so that we who believe might live. Just as Jude desired that his readers continue to know God’s mercy, peace, and love, so we should desire to express these qualities to the world around us. Keep your eyes open today for an opportunity to show mercy, or to share about the peace of God in Christ, or to love someone even as Christ has loved you.
