Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold.

In this passage, Jesus is telling His disciples about the signs before the end, warning them that in the last days many false prophets will arise. Their only goal will be to distort the gospel’s message and thereby bring eternal consequences in people’s lives. False teachers hate God and try to hide Him from the eyes of their followers. Are you daily feasting on God’s word, living a life of joyful obedience? They put in His place false, worldly, and empty inventions. For them, Jesus is only a footnote to their godless purposes. They use His name to fool those who pursue Him. False teachers claim to come from God. They appear as sheep, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. The church will only be relevant when it transmits all of God’s message in the way God intended it. No other message, no matter how important it may be or seem to be, can occupy the place of the message of God. Just as Paul wrote to the Galatians, “If any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!” (Gal. 1:9). We must be aware of this. As Christians who embrace the gospel, we must rely on the sufficiency of Scripture. We must listen to, love, and proclaim the truth. Are you daily feasting on God’s word, living a life of joyful obedience? That will help you discern and avoid error, and keep your love from growing cold.
