Love does not brag and is not arrogant.

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between bragging and arrogance? Bragging is outward self-exaltation and arrogance is inward pride. Bragging is noticeable to others, while arrogance can pass unnoticed as it nestles in the heart. Bragging reveals itself in self-praise, emphasizing personal merit, or attracting attention for the praise of others. Arrogance is internal self-exaltation. Don’t get wrapped up in yourself. Think about those who are needy and take interest in their lives. If bragging is when a person signals that he deserves praise, then arrogance is when he feels he deserves praise. Arrogance can even exist with a form of outward humility. C. S. Lewis expressed it aptly: “We are especially arrogant when we enjoy being humble.”Yet true love is the opposite—it does not brag and is not arrogant. How then can you begin to battle these twin sins and cultivate true love and humility? Don’t get wrapped up in yourself. Instead, think about Christ! Meditate on His majesty. Be enthralled with His beauty and character as revealed in the Gospels. Don’t get wrapped up in yourself. Think about the good qualities of others. Notice their virtues. Think about what you can learn from them. Take note of how God is working in their lives and what kind of fruit He is producing in them. Don’t get wrapped up in yourself. Think about those who are needy and take interest in their lives. Find out what their needs are. Don’t hide from their problems. Finally, don’t get wrapped up in yourself. Intercede for others in prayer. Pray for the pastors and leaders in your church. Pray for brothers and sisters in Christ. Pray for unsaved relatives and acquaintances. Pray for the leaders of your country, state, and city.
