Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

We are living in a faster pace of life than previous generations. Without electronic devices to remind us of what we need to do today, we may forget. It is becoming increasingly easier to focus on the things of this world and not on the things above. What separates or differentiates you as a Christ-follower from your unbelieving neighbor or coworker? Although our behaviors may be similar, our heart motivations are different than the unbeliever. When Scripture speaks of the mind, it includes our thoughts, beliefs, understanding, judgments, and discernment. Paul writes to the Colossian church to tell them to set their minds on the things above. When Scripture speaks of the mind, it includes our thoughts, beliefs, understanding, judgments, and discernment. Are our thoughts and beliefs honoring to God? Do we think about how our behavior should reflect God’s glory? We must choose to be concerned about honoring Christ and not man. When we choose to set our minds on the things above, we create a God-honoring motivation that leads to God-honoring behavior. Our behavior must be motivated from a desire to honor Christ, which starts with setting our minds on the things above. What we value in our heart will be known in how we speak and how we act. What are your words and actions saying about you? What consumes your time throughout the day? How much of your day is spent thinking about the things above? Set your mind on such things and let your heart be motivated by what honors God.
