No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

Money is important for us to live. However, we should not live for money. We should live for God. A life of serving God is the life of a child of God. In my life, there are many times when I try to live for my own glory. What I am doing is seeking to live a life where I am a king. I want to be respected; I want to be praised. However, God’s word teaches that we are to serve Him, not ourselves or money or anything else. Examine your heart. Are there any rivals to Christ’s kingship over it? When I remember this, I think about whom my life is for. If my life were my own, I would serve money and treat myself as a king, as countless people do. But my only king is Christ and I am just a servant of Christ my king. A servant should faithfully serve his king. To serve anything else is to serve a rival to the true king, Christ. How important it is, then, to believe that Christ is our king. There are many things in this world that seek to keep us and blind us from following Christ, the true king. It could be money, pleasure—even ourselves. But when we turn to Christ’s word, we can know His will for us, and we must follow it instead of our own will or the will of wealth. Examine your heart. Are there any rivals to Christ’s kingship over it? Then, consider Jesus’ words—you cannot serve two masters. Serve the true King with your whole heart.
