Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

I often hear people complaining that no one loves them. Spouses, children, students, professionals— many people feel unloved. Love certainly does not characterize our fallen world. So, where does it come from? According to the Bible, love is from God. This love of God toward mankind was demonstrated once and for all at the cross. We see it in Jesus’ willing sacrifice of love to become sin on our behalf so that we might live in Him. Friend, do you have love in your heart for others, especially for the family of God? What God has done through His Son Jesus Christ is the greatest demonstration of selfless, life-promoting love that the world has ever known. Jesus said, “Great- er love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). In the verse above, the apostle John encourages us to love one another in this way. If we are born-again Christians, then it will follow that we will show others the same love of God that we found in Christ. We cannot truly love and fulfill God’s word without His love first working in our hearts. That’s why John says that love is from God. Friend, do you have love in your heart for others, especially for the family of God? It is this kind of love—not simply knowing facts about God—that proves that you know God. Anyone can recite truths about God, but not anyone can love others as Christ loved us. Only those who are born of God and know God truly love. If you know Christ’s love, make an effort today to share it with others.
