Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
— Genesis 1:26 —

Mankind is undoubtedly the jewel of God’s creation. We are the only creatures created in His image, in the image of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Mankind was created by the will of God, and to be fulfilled in serving God with all the abilities to discern, decide, chose, and love. Our ultimate value rests in the fact that God made us in His image, according to His likeness. Yet, people seek to be fulfilled in many different ways. In order to feel good about themselves, human beings claim to need some sort of extra motivation, regularly resorting to their own strength and knowledge, or to other humanistic techniques. Yet, the Bible tells us that we are created in God’s image, according to His likeness with the purpose of ruling over all the creatures on earth. God created us with many different skills and abilities, and we can and must use them. Our true value is not in what we are capable of doing. Our ultimate value rests in the fact that God made us in His image, according to His likeness. God has ultimately gifted us with the ability to relate to Him and enjoy intimate and particular communion with Him. No other created being has that kind of privilege. And though sin has marred this image, all humans nonetheless still bear this image, and through the gospel, this image is renewed in believers. Do you need anything else in order to feel fulfilled? If you’re a Christian, the God of the universe created you in His image to be His herald and steward. Let us give thanks to our good Creator and mirror His character as those made in His image.
