The Lord favors those who fear Him, those who wait for His lovingkindness.

What brings you joy? A good deal? A great vacation? A delicious meal? Your favorite team winning? Each of us finds joy in something. But have you wondered, what brings God joy? In what does He find satisfaction? The psalmist tells us. God favors and finds joy in the person who demonstrates two qualities. Would the people who know you testify that you are someone who fears the Lord? First, the person who fears God. The Lord rejoices in people who stand in awe before Him and humbly bow before His majesty and holiness (Isa. 8:13), who hates sin (Prov. 8:13) and strive to be obedient in all things (Prov. 14:2). Second, God finds joy in the person who waits for His lovingkindness. God is pleased when the only hope a person possesses is in His mercy. That person understands what he truly deserves (punishment in hell) and is thankful for God’s mercy. He knows that God loves to show mercy (Mic. 7:18). He understands that God’s mercy is based on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. And thus, he will patiently wait upon God and trust in His perfect, wise timing. Would the people who know you testify that you are someone who fears the Lord? Would they say you exhibit confidence and patient trust in God? Are you someone whose only hope is in God’s steadfast love and mercy? Bow before the Lord today. Ask Him to make you a person who fears Him and trusts in His mercy. This is how you can bring God joy.
