Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.

When we fail to do the right things, when we ignore what we must do, and when we do not walk as we should, we sin against God and do not live in holiness. While sinful behaviors may be lived out because of outright rebellion against God’s holy demands, more often than not, these appear in the lives of Christians due to the lack of understanding of the truth. Christ in John 17:17, shows us that for us to be holy, set apart from the world, we need the truth of the word of God and we need it to sanctify us. The power of the word is not just to convert people to have life eternal, but also to make them have a life of holiness. Many Japanese churches do not teach this simple truth, that the life characterized by holiness is brought about by the word of God. In our culture, being the same as others so that we won’t stand out is extremely important. This seems to have invaded the church. Sadly, it is even true of me at times where I was seeking to be the same as the world around me, though I knew God demanded holiness in my life. As I gained an understanding of the Scriptures, I began to see the importance of what Christ prays to the Father. It is absolutely necessary for me to know the word of God so that I can live a life characterized by holiness. The power of the word is not just to convert people to have life eternal, but also to make them have a life of holiness. Let us be diligent students of the word so that our lives can be totally set apart to our God.
