Declare the Whole Purpose of God

For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God.

Honduras is a country full of prosperity gospel preachers and supposedly miraculous healings. An emotionally based gospel is taught and the preaching of God’s word is replaced with entertainment-like Christian concerts. True exposition of the Bible is absent in most churches. It’s urgent that God’s people pay attention to Paul’s declaration in Acts and treat it with all seriousness. The mandate to preach God’s word comes from God Himself, and He has commanded His shepherds to proclaim all of His Word. This passage defines biblical ministry for all godly men with its solemn central message. The whole purpose of God is to be declared. God’s word is to be proclaimed. The apostle Paul was committed to serving God with his whole be- ing, even if it meant giving up his freedom and his life. Preserving his life was not of the utmost importance. Rather, his greatest concern was completing the Lord’s work, of which he had been charged— spreading the good news through the power of the Holy Spirit. Paul will later echo these same convictions in his second letter to Timothy, the last epistle he would write before he was martyred in Rome. Paul wrote it to his beloved companion and young pastor, Timothy, who needed to follow Paul’s example. The mandate to preach God’s word comes from God Himself, and He has commanded His shepherds to proclaim all of His word. The responsibility of a pastor and teacher is to explain the meaning of Scripture to believers and unbelievers so that they might know and understand what God desires. Thus, shepherds are under God’s watchful eye, and He looks at how we treat His word. Pray that God would raise up more faithful pastors in Honduras—and in the place where you live.
