For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
— Hebrews 10:14 —

When reading this verse we must ask, “Of whom is the writer speaking?” Who is this figure that provided such a perfect offering? Through a careful reading of the context, we learn that it is Jesus Christ. The author of Hebrews is also drawing attention to two words that are crucial to our understanding. Jesus Christ with His one offering, His own life and death, did for humanity what was unattainable by the Law. He brought complete salvation forever. These words are one and offering. The first verse of this chapter indicates why he has done this: “the Law … can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near.” We see that Jesus Christ with His one offering, His own life and death, did for humanity what was unattainable by the Law. He brought complete salvation forever. Therefore, we can add nothing to Christ’s salvation. What a relief this was in my early years as a believer, realizing that Christ did it all. As I struggled with specific sins in my early walk with Christ, I started questioning my salvation. Was it genuine? Do I need to do something more? No, Christ did it all through a single offering! This was a great discovery for me. This truth fortified my salvation that I have in Christ. How valuable this truth is when you live in an area like Croatia where Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion. Every day, people attempt to repeat the sacrifice of Christ. This is why the church needs to believe and proclaim clearly: “Christ did it all by one offering for all time!” Have you trusted in this single, perfect offering? Thank Christ today for His sacrifice.
