I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, and in His word do I hope.

Frequently, due to circumstances in our lives or sins we commit, we fall away from the straight path in life. When we wander and go astray from God and His perfect will, we feel lost, sad, and even anguished in heart. In times like these, God’s children come to the throne of grace with fervent and insistent pleas. When there is no exit on the horizon, we cry out to God from the innermost part of our soul, and God always hears our prayer. God is true, and His word never fails! In this we do hope. Sometimes His answer comes immediately. At other times, He teaches us to wait. When this happens, we learn to persevere in faith, hoping in the promises we know, even though God appears to be silent. Let us always remember that God is true and His promises are sure. Were it not for the certainty of His promises, our soul would not only be downcast, but our heart would also despair to the point of breaking. We would be without the hope of God’s soothing and strengthening presence, without the hope of a sure and eternal future in heaven. But God is true, and His word never fails! In this we do hope. Just as sentinels wait for the dawn, we wait out the night, hoping to see new mercies in the morning. And we trust that the Lord will, sooner or later, bring light and hope to our troubled soul.
