But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

The saint is often ignorant of what he should already know and forgetful of what he has already learned. Unlike a sponge, eager to absorb the riches of God’s word, his mind becomes impervious to truth and oblivious to the riches in the Scriptures. For this reason, Christ has given us the Holy Spirit. The word translated as helper was used by the Greeks to describe an adviser or representative, one who assisted others in doing what they could not do for themselves. What truths have you become ignorant or forgetful of? Pray for His ministry in your life today. Jesus makes clear in His promise that the Holy Spirit helps us in two ways: teaching and reminding us of all that Christ has said. Four years ago, Jaroslava contracted Lyme’s disease. She has suffered much and has every reason to focus on her disease. Yet, the Holy Spirit has continually reminded her of the great price Jesus paid to redeem her and the great debt from which He delivered her. Though she is tempted to dread the pain, become anxious, or look for excuses to neglect others, Jaroslava has exemplified the opposite. The teaching and reminding ministry of the Holy Spirit through the word of God has graced her with the fuel to live for Christ, serve others, and experience inexplicable joy. In what areas do you need the Spirit’s assistance? What truths have you become ignorant or forgetful of? Pray for His ministry in your life today. Pray for a tender heart. Be taught and reminded by Him of who Christ is and all He has done for you. Find your heart refueled to live this day for Him who bled and died for you.
