Ukraine: Political Turmoil and the Need for Genuine, Eternal Change

tatlockIf you have followed the international news cycle over the past several months, you’ve no doubt heard the nation of Ukraine mentioned on many occasions. The country is caught in an internal struggle with one faction calling for a closer relationship with the European Union, and another faction seeking a deeper alliance with Russia.

I won’t go into all of the political intrigue, but I do want to share with you some encouraging news about Irpin Biblical Seminary, the TMAI training center that is located in Ukraine’s capitol city of Kiev.

Demonstrations—some of them leading to violent clashes—have broken out sporadically in the city, but the training center and the men who serve and attend classes there have not been affected. We are grateful to the Lord for His hand of protection. Please keep the seminary in your prayers.

Even more encouraging is that the Lord continues to call its men into ministry. Irpin is seeing record enrollments. The church in Ukraine is growing and its people are hungry for God’s Word.

I have heard and read many speculations about the future of Ukraine. Some are optimistic while others paint a more dire picture of where the nation might be headed.

All the while, though, I am reminded that God is building His church. Nations rise and fall. Leaders are raised up and they are replaced. Political movements come and go.

But God’s Word is eternal. His truth endures.

And while political factions grapple to hold the reigns of power for a season, you and I understand that the only real means of change come when people are transformed and renewed by God.

TMAI is not a political organization. We don’t seek to affect changes in public policy. At best such changes are temporal and temporary.

Our mission at TMAI is much more permanent and eternal. In 15 training centers all around the world, we train Christians to proclaim the Bible. We equip them to build the church.

The result of that commitment is a supernatural transformation, and that’s what we are pursing together.

I’m looking forward to what the Lord will do through our partnership in 2014. It is a joy to be a part of building His church with you.

Until He returns,

Mark Tatlock, President
